How to stage a coup in 3 easy steps

Saturday, August 12th, 2006

(Note: This scenario, while possible, is not likely and I do not really have any documents that were uncovered to indicate this is a real plan, so please do not share this with CBS News.)

Think there aren’t liberals in the House and Senate dreaming of a chance to “correct” the last election?  Here’s the plan (found scribbled on the back of a napkin left behind by two prominent Northeast senators when visiting a popular Stonington bistro):

Step 1: Gain majority in House and Senate

Step 2: Start and complete simultaneous impeachment procedings against Bush and Cheney

Step 3: Speaker of the House Pelosi assumes presidency via Presidential Succession Act of 1947

That 9/11 kind of feeling again

Thursday, August 10th, 2006

Did you feel it? Did you wake up, turn on the news, and get punched in the stomach today?

Yes, the plot to blow up several US bound planes was disrupted. No doubt this should be viewed on an intellectual level as a victory for intelligence services and law enforcement, but still there’s that feeling.  We knew on some hypothetical, back-of-the-mind, when-not-if level that terrorists did not just disappear from the international scene after 9/11.  But just like people living near a fault line or at the foot of a volcano, we continued to carry on with our lives secure in the belief that today would not be the day.

Well, today was a stark reminder that any day can be that day.

The Damage is Done?

Monday, August 7th, 2006

Aside from being the fifth track on the debut, self-titled album by Foreigner, (loved that album … great concert too…), The Damage is Done is a reality we must face in a propaganda war that is being fought with the (at best) passive, complicit acceptance of the press.  The latest example is stunning in its amateurish attempt to “enhance” a photo showing the aftermath of an Israeli air raid.  Big tip of the cap to little green footballs and Bill Roggio of Counterterrorism Blog.  I simply can not believe a professional photographer is so incompetent with cloning tools AND that Reuters didn’t even notice the photo was doctored.

More Thoughts on Senator Clinton & Abortion

Friday, August 4th, 2006

Has anyone ever asked Senator Clinton to elaborate on her position that abortion should be “safe, legal and rare”?

Exactly how many abortions are acceptable each year?  In 1996 there were 1,221,585 legal abortions in the US.  In 2004 there was an estimated 46 million abortions performed worldwide each year… very rare event, need to pay close attention to actually spot one.  That’s 126,000 per day, 5,250 per hour, 87 per minute, almost 1.5 per second.  By the time you finish reading this paragraph, assuming you are a relatively fast reader, 20 more babies have been aborted.

So when will we know abortionis rare?  And what’s the plan to get there?

Senator Clinton is big on disguising her real positions by using meaningless phrases like “safe, legal and rare” (notice rare takes 3rd place in this list).  Clearly the pronouncement that Senator Clinton believes abortion should be rare is meant to dampen opposition to her potential candidacy for president from those looking for “middle ground” on the subject of abortion without actually having to state her real position that abortion should be safe, legal and readily available with a HOPE that people will “choose” to not have an abortion, thereby somehow magically leading to abortions being rare based upon some unknown target for reducing abortions below some tolerance level that will never be publicly articulated.
