Thinkin’bout Stuff

Spree over at Wake Up America draws a parallel between the actions of the many women who collectively became known as “Tokyo Rose” during WWII and some members of the Democrat Party today:

Voting for the Democratic party next week is voting for the Tokyo Rose’s of the Iraq war. Refusing to vote at all telling our troops you do not believe in their capabilities, despite their own words. Voting Republican is letting our troops know, you believe in them and their mission. They are not a mistake, neither is what they are fighting for. They are our military, they are our heroes and they deserve our support.

If you listen carefully to what is being said by many on the left, whether intentional or not, their words can and do have a demoralizing effect on our troops.  If we look at the history of Iva Toguri D’Aquino who was, at the time, identified as the mythical Tokyo Rose and convicted of treason, is the parallel with “Tokyo Rose” fair?   I don’t think so and here’s why:

• Tokyo Rose was forced to broadcast propaganda and did everything she could to make it clear her statements were ludicrous
• Democrats make ludicrous statements voluntarily and actually believe them

 

• Allied troops were not impacted by Tokyo Rose’s propaganda (based upon post-war analysis) because they ignored the propaganda and enjoyed the music
• US troops in Iraq and Afghanistan are impacted because they recognize that the attacks on their Commander in Chief come from American leaders who give lip service to “supporting the troops”, because to say anything else would guarantee getting voted out of office, while simultaneously attacking their Commander in Chief, claiming we are losing the war in Iraq, losing the war on terrorism, accusing them of killing and raping innocent civilians and joking about either their intelligence or their president’s intelligence, depending on which version of Kerry’s insulting joke you believe

Frankly, it is just not fair to compare Tokyo Rose to the Democrats of today, and if Iva Toguri D’Aquino had not passed away earlier this year, she might have a good case for a lawsuit.
