Hey Joe. Who loves ya?

Looks like Joe Lieberman can pretty much ask for anything he wants right now.  If he decides to stay an Independent and side with the Republican Leadership (or even switch to the Republicans) control of the Senate stays with the Republicans. So, I guess the Democrat leadership is in a somewhat awkward position after trying very hard to discredit and dump the good Senator.

Here’s what Wesley Clark has to say:

From the Boston Globe (Democrats abandon Lieberman, back Lamont):

Top Democrats on Capitol Hill abandoned Sen. Joe Lieberman one by one Wednesday … Top Senate Democrats, including John Kerry and Edward Kennedy of Massachusetts, Harry Reid of Nevada, Frank Lautenberg of New Jersey and Chuck Schumer of New York, said they supported Lamont as the duly elected choice of Connecticut’s Democratic voters.

Kennedy called Lamont’s victory “a clarion call for change,” and a spokeswoman said Kennedy planned to campaign for the nominee.

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton … urged the senator to “search his conscience and decide what is best for Connecticut and for the Democratic Party.”

Lamont said “He gets a lot more support from Republicans than he does from Democrats.”

From MSNBC: Jesse Jackson: “He should play by the rules! Play by the rules!” …  “Those who play by primary rules should accept primary results!”

So.. the Democrats wanted Lieberman out, period. Now Lieberman is in, and he can thank Republican and Independent voters in his home state for a new life after being abandoned by his own Party.

Must be very tempting to look Ted & Hillary, Harry & Frank, Chuck & John, right in the eye and tell them how much he felt their love and how he’s not going to stay in this abusive relationship.

Make the switch Joe… the Republicans will show you some love :-)
