Interesting headline today:
Poll: 52% View Pelosi As Liberal
Pelosi, slated to become the nation’s first woman Speaker of the House, is viewed as politically liberal by 52% of Americans and moderate by 22%. Just 5% consider her conservative and 20% are not sure.
The real headline is that 22% of Americans polled believe she is a “moderate” and some poor unfortunate people who redefine the term “clueless” believe she is a “conservative”. At least the 20% that are not sure I get; they probably have no clue who she is and are likely candidates for Leno’s “Jay Walking” bit.
They should use control questions in these polls. For example, ask them if they believe Castro is a liberal, conservative, moderate or convertible or if Osama should run for president in 2008. If they can’t answer these questions correctly, there really is no point asking them anything else; just give them the bottle of Ripple you promised them and move on.
