Tom Raum, AP writer, is lucky he is not under oath. He just can’t stop himself from claiming that Plame’s identity was “leaked”. How can something be “leaked” when it is not a secret? It can be shared, told, informed, discussed, announced, conveyed… maybe even divulged; but it can not be leaked. Nowhere does Raum bother to mention the fact that NO LAWS WERE BROKEN.
Some clippings: The conviction of I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby gave the White House a scrubbing — but not the one Bush had in mind.
I’m sorry… is this a news article or an opinion piece?
The case laid bare the inner workings of a presidency under siege and the secretive world of Vice President Dick Cheney.
Under siege?
And the Libby case showed the president assisting Cheney in the leaked attacks on Wilson.
The trial leaves a trail of unanswered questions leading to the doorsteps of Bush and Cheney. Testimony and evidence did not clear up whether they directed the leaking of Plame’s identity to the news media.
Did not clear up? You mean like there was no evidence?
But the trial did show Bush declassified prewar intelligence that Libby leaked to New York Times reporter Judith Miller.
Can declassified info be leaked?
He was the only one charged in the case, and he was not charged with deliberately disclosing Plame’s identity, which can be a federal crime, but with lying to investigators and a grand jury. Testimony showed there were other leakers…
If true, why were there no other indictments? Oh right, almost forgot… because there was no “leak”. And Libby was not charged with deliberately disclosing Plame’s identity because there was no law broken.
The White House has never corrected the denials it issued in the fall of 2003 saying neither Rove nor Libby was involved in the leak of Plame’s CIA identity.
And yet… since there was no leak, why would there be a need to correct the denial.
“Lewis Libby has been convicted of perjury, but his trial revealed deeper truths about Vice President Cheney’s role in this sordid affair. Now President Bush must pledge not to pardon Libby for his criminal conduct,” said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.
Right… pardons should be reserved for major contributors, relatives and members of the FALN terrorist group (cough.. cough.. Bill Clinton… cough). Anyone know how many pardons Bill Clinton issued on his last day of office? If you guessed 140… you were right! You are so smart. Want to read about some of the more interesting pardons… visit Wiki.
