Daily words of wisdom from the mind of Obama

OK… maybe not daily.  The frequency of this new feature at Thinkin’ is really up to Obama and the media.

Why bother to pick nits?  Seems like this stuff is important to some folks, how else can you explain all the jokes about Bush?  Remember Dan Quayle and the attacks on his intelligence because of a mistaken spelling of potato that he apparently was reading from the materials supplied by the school he was visiting?  From wiki:

His most famous blunder occurred when he corrected a student’s correct spelling of “potato” to “potatoe” at an elementary school spelling bee in Trenton, New Jersey, on June 15, 1992. According to his memoirs, Quayle was uncomfortable with the version he gave, but did so because he decided to trust what he described as incorrect written materials provided by the school. He informed student William Figueroa that he had misspelled the word “potato”, when in fact Figueroa had spelled it correctly. Quayle then had Figueroa add an “e”, once again making himself a target with this incorrect spelling. Quayle was widely lambasted for his apparent inability to spell the word “potato.” Figueroa was a guest on Late Night with David Letterman and was asked to lead the pledge of allegiance at the 1992 Democratic National Convention.

Well… we’re here to inform on the important stuff.  So when Obama misspronunciates face-baithed initiatives, visits 57 states, announces that 10,000 people were killed by one tornado, we will be right here making sure you have access to this critical data.

Today’s entry, from a July 1, non-scripted statement on his position on same-sex marriage:

I think that DOMA, the Defense Against Marriage Act, was, was a unnecessary imposition  on what had been the traditional rules governing marriage and how states interact on the issues of marriage. (edited to remove “uh’s”)

DOMA=Defense AGAINST Marriage Act?  No.   Defense OF Marriage Act.   OK?
