Daily words of wisdom from the mind of Obama

The quote:

The system isn’t working when 12 million people live in hiding, and hundreds of thousands cross our borders illegally each year; when companies hire undocumented immigrants instead of legal citizens to avoid paying overtime or to avoid a union; when communities are terrorized by ICE immigration raids – when nursing mothers are torn from their babies, when children come home from school to find their parents missing, when people are detained without access to legal counsel.

Rantings of Rev. Wright?  No.   A far left-wing blogger?   Nope.  Anti-American activist?  Maybe.. OK.. no.

No, afraid this attack on ICE (US Immigration and Customs Enforcement) was made by Barack Obama during his speech to La Raza (which means “The Race” for those of us not yet versed in the official second language of the United States).

Just another example of Obama cherry-picking facts and using false information to further his agenda.

Nursing mothers are “torn” from their babies?  That should evoke an emotional response from a crowd for sure… but is it true?  Not quite.  The NY Times story Obama is likely referring to was certainly based upon a story posted on The Plain Dealer eight days earlier.  Neither article referred to the baby being “torn” from her mother, so those are Obama’s words.

The articles did paint a picture of a crying child being separated from her mother, a heart rending image for sure, just as it would be when a mother is taken away from her children for breaking any other law.

Obama kind of forgot to mention that ICE, within days of this incident, issued a policy statement instructing agents to coordinate with health service agencies to determine if detained illegal immigrants should be released while awaiting deportation so that they can care for their family.

Considering this woman had already been ordered deported a year earlier and her husband had already been deported and returned, illegally again, what was ICE supposed to do?  Seems to me that they defied US law repeatedly and caused the situation that led to their being separated from their children, but this is somehow ICE’s fault.

These people were breaking the law.  As president, would Obama order federal agents to ignore the laws he disagrees with?

Obama’s portrayal of ICE as a thuggish group intent on hurting people based upon isolated incidents is, at a minimum, unfair.  Here’s one example of the type of story you will NOT here Obama repeat, since it does not further his agenda:

A woman from Juarez, Mexico, whose 7-month-old daughter was kidnapped from their home three months ago, was reunited with her child here earlier today, capping an intensive effort by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Procuraduria General de la Republica (the Mexican Attorney General’s Office, commonly known as the PGR) to locate the infant and return her.

The mother, Francisca Garcia-Favila, was paroled into the United States and escorted to Las Vegas by ICE agents and representatives from the PGR. This morning marked the first time Garcia-Favila had seen her daughter, Alexandra, since the child was kidnapped shortly before Thanksgiving and brought into the United States by members of a Juarez-based human smuggling ring. Representatives from the local Mexican consulate attended today’s reunion and are providing assistance to the mother.

“Seeing this child reunited with her mother was deeply gratifying for everyone involved,” said Kevin Kozak, deputy special agent in charge of the ICE office that oversees the agency’s investigative efforts in Las Vegas.

Those monsters! Reuniting a child like that and then actually expressing joy over this outrage!
