Welcome Braithwaite.

Please don't confuse the opinion shows (like Hannity & Colmes or O'Reilly) with the news shows on FoxNews. The news shows on FoxNews are actually quite fair and essentially the closest thing we have in the states to straight news reporting these days. I look at Special Report with Brit Hume as a transitional show in their lineup. The first half hour is straight news, the sceond half hour is opinion.

The difference between FoxNews and the others is that FoxNews let's you know when they are giving opinion vs news. MSNBC, for example, is opinion disguised as news.

Here in the UK it is deemed unacceptable for people that call themselves journalists to opine on things in a "news" format. For example, we watch Fox News because we find it hilarious - there's simply no news organisation here with that kind of bias, so we're spellbound by Sean Hannity.

News is a factual account of events in the world, not a forum for peoples "views", whereas in America it's reversed. If a BBC journalist is suspected of political bias in reporting there's national outrage and they're sacked - because tax-payers effectively own the BBC, we don't think they should have any input at all on matters of opinion. 1 for "socialism"?

Redhawk, that link was broken.

Also, this is a discussion forum, not a place to post links.

Welcome Tony... is that your blog? Will check it out...

Aside from my obvious leaning to the conservative side on many (most?) issues, I'm getting very concerned that we are moving to a one party government (two party in name only) and that is not good no matter which side is in power. We need checks in this form of government that I fear will vanish on Nov 4. I would feel much better if we could at least trust that the press would act as an advocate for the people and not behave as cheerleaders... then again, they probably believe they are acting in our best interest when they put their agenda above accurate, investigative reporting. After all.. they know what is best for us.
