Chris Matthews – What a Joke

Chris, can I call you that, Chris?  After all, you keep referring to “Barack”, so in this new era of informality where you feel comfortable enough to refer to our next president by his first name, I’ll just call you Chris.

I confess I rarely watched your show, which should come as no surprise since you probably know all of your viewers by their first name as well.  However, I am fairly certain you never referred to President Bush as George… why is that?

Anyway, I suppose I am digressing a bit, just seems you are rather cozy with the new prez for a “journalist”.  Then again…

Chris, now that the election is over, it is refreshing to hear you finally admit that you are not now nor have you ever been an actual journalist.

You have been a partisan mole from the start.  By admitting your “job” is to do everything you can to ensure Barack succeeds as president after 8 years of taking the opposite view of your role in your “reporting” on anything related to our current president, you have confessed to being 100% in the tank for Barack.

In fact, you seemed stunned that anyone was even questioning why you would think that your job as a “journalist” was to ensure Barack was successful.  Isn’t that not only the job of every journalist, but the job of every single American, nay every living being on this planet?

Now that the world has been freed from the evil wizard from the north who migrated to the southwest to grow in strength and power, calling his evil minions to his side as he plotted to steal our country from the rightful successors to the throne, Gorefindal and Kerrymingle…

OK, maybe your delusions are not quite as far out there as that, but clearly you have fallen under the spell of The One.  How else do you explain your total acceptance of all things Barack without any evidence that this man can accomplish anything he promises via his speech writers.

You don’t want to ask any questions, you don’t want to know the answers, and you certainly do not appreciate anyone else asking any questions that could cause this delicate flower, Barack, to fail.  We must nurture the Barack because, how did you say it, we need our president to be successful.  One wonders if you would be of the same mind if Senator John McCain had won (I don’t think it would be appropriate to just call him by his first name… after all, he’s an adult).

In this video (saw it on FoxNews… you know, a real news network), Chris looks as if he has won the lottery and been promised unending life in the same day:

Even the other folks on the show appear stunned that Chris is showing his true nature.

….this grave problem influenced the results of the election more than any other factor…if the “right” doesn’t figure out how to deal with this control of the means of communication then no matter how great their candidates are and how American their positions are they will continue to lose elections…they are still attacking Palin…the entertainment shows last night were in full force over her wardrobe and then Fox news covered it as well saying they are a new organization not an entertainment show…

…these liberals don’t know how to lose and they don’t know how to win…and these attacks against Palin are truly disgraceful

This is ridiculous. The right has an entire network (Fox News) dedicated to the dissemination of conservative views and talking points in the most transparent method imaginable. Couple this with the domination of talk radio and I would press anybody to field as numerous a team of liberal voices on the airways. What makes this even worse is that this conversation is taking place on MSNBC frequently derided as a left leaning station, but the show in question is Morning Joe, hosted by a self professed conservative. Where is the parallel in the Fox network? Unfortunately the selfish, mean and outright dangerous positions and policies of the cultural right remain regardless of the resounding voice of the country for unity in a time of great crisis. John McCain was gracious enough to earnestly pronounce his support. He was forced to run a disastrous, divisive campaign to appease the poisonus culturally conservative base of the Republican Party to the detriment of him and his country. Is it only patriotic to unite behind the President you supported?

  3. Mikala, seriously?

Lots of points you are making, so let’s take them one at a time:

    1) Have you seen any of the studies of the major networks and cable news programs? FoxNews was straight down the line in their reporting on the election with almost exactly the same amount of negative and positive coverage of Obama and McCain. All the other outlets, especially MSNBC, were slanted significantly to Obama.

    2) Yes, radio is dominated by right-wing commentary, but they do not claim to be journalists

    3) re: the parallel to Morning Joe… Colmes, Juan Williams, Greta Van Susteren, the list goes on… if you look at the O’Reilly Factor, which the left hates, studies have proven that he has an equal number of guests from the left and the right. Problem is, most folks on the left are so used to every “news” report having a left leaning slant, they perceive balanced reporting and commentary as being right leaning

    4) After 8 years of attacking President Bush, you have the nerve to talk about the country needing unity in a time of crises? I actually agree with you, but do not appreciate the hypocracy of the left who suddenly woke up yesterday morning and started preaching unity

    5) Obama ran a campaign with an equal number of negative ads to McCain, but he had enough money to also balance that with positive ads. Obama started the whole negative campaigning stuff back in the primaries and continued it throughout, especially adept at pre-emptive campaigning on the race issue. It was effective. But let’s not pretend it wasn’t there.

    6) Patriotic to unite? Yes. But that is not the role of a journalist. In fact, why do we even know who Matthews supported?

I agree, this is ridiculous. Until the folks on the left start behaving like adults, let go of their irrational hatred of anyone who holds a different perspective, and reaches out to the right (something incumbent upon the winner), there will be no unity. Your comment is an example of why there will be no unity.

You see, this post was about the innapropriate behavior of a journalist and all you could see is an opportunity to make it a right/left thing. How about just agreeing that Matthews was out of line… but that would be too difficult since Matthews agrees with your view of the world, so it is just that he proclaim the good word.

The only institution to suffer a bigger meltdown this year than the banks is the media. If it were limited to Matthews and the other gasbag on MSNBC it would be the joke that you reference it as.Unfortunately,CNN is no better, nor are any of the networks, all of whom it seems need Donna Brazile 24/7 to explain the inner marvel of Obama’s mind.Lord only knows where this woman finds the time.We need not discuss whats left of the print media as it circles the bowl on the way down.I think that the reason that the founders attended to freedom of the press early into their deliberations is because, although not mandated specifically in the Constitution, its presence and function as an ad hoc but permanent opposition have constitutional consequences. Its corruption and metamorphosis into a non profit ideological support system for Obama and his Party have already played a role in elevating a thinly qualified and thoroughly un vetted man into the Presidency.Matthews and his fellow deep thinkers who will continue to act as extensions of Team Obama rather than as a loyal opposition render entities like Fox News far more vital than any single organization ought to be.One supposes that it is simply another example of the dumbing down of our society

  5. BushequalHitler says:

The panel covering the election on Fox: Juan Williams (liberal), Bill Kristol (conservative), a woman whose name escapes me (liberal), and Fred Barnes (conservative).

The panel covering the election on MSNBC: Keith Olberman, Chris Mathews, Rachel Maddow, and a women whose name escapes me but who, like the other three was not a fan of McCain or Republicans or conservatives.

    QED.

  6. Ken says:

President Clinton left the White House after putting a WHITE SPOT on Monicas blue dress….Obama comes to the White House after putting a WHITE SPOT on Chris Matthews blue slacks…….

  7. Well said Diana.

Bushequal… I don’t get the name, what does Hitler have to do with this, also not following the reference to QED as in applies to this (maybe I’m being dense).

Will save others the search: QED = Which was to be demonstrated (quod erat demonstrandum)

  8. Cute Ken… a bit crude, but cute.

  9. cookiegramma says:

There is a real failure in perception about the coverage of this election. Mikala cliams that the right had a whole network, wow, I guess that is compensation for the one sided coverage by CBS, NBC MSNBC, CNN and evn ABC after George Stephanopolis got dressed down for asking hard questions in one debate. The print media was not much different. I had actually bought a three year subscription to Newsweek just before this started ( research material for school papers for kids). That subscription was cancelled after several weeks of seeing the failure to actually cover news by the organization. Other print media sources that joined in the idol worship to name a few; New York Times, Time magazine, and major other state newspapers like the LA Times. I actually had to drive to another state to find balanced primary news coverage. I stopped buying my own local paper in April because of how biased the coverage was and only continue the state paper because my husband likes to read the comic page in the morning. Okay, I admit I did clip the coupons on Sundays.
One of the biggest failures this election season was the A.P., most of the writers seem to have forgotten how to do anything remotely resembling investigative journalism. I don’t know maybe it was lazyness that made them write stories using the Obama campaigns daily talking points as if they were real news. The media has failed the entire country this time around. It is not the job of journalists to elect a person to any office, it is their job to inform the public about all issues and sides. They have done massive damage to any credibility they ever claimed this time around. Perhaps they should approach the next election by looking at themselves as being lawyers having to represent the facts from both sides. Had they done that this time, maybe the L.A. Times would not be facing becoming an on-line only news source and the Chicago Tribune would not be so close to proclaiming bankruptcy.

  10. spot on as always CG :-)
