Oil drops below $34 to lowest level in almost 5 years
I know this is largely due to the worldwide economic downturn, but I hope we all keep our consumption habits in check as if oil prices were at $150… the less money flowing from here to there the better… let them drink their precious oil or bath in it… if they want to cut production to raise the price, we should cut consumption even more wherever possible. Plan trips to stores to avoid multiple trips in a week; have oil heat? Knock down the thermostat one degree if you can, probably won’t even notice the change; use synthetic oil in your car; I’ve heard of folks, who would never have considered public transportation in the past, changing their thinking when the prices were up… we should keep that mindset because, if we don’t, the price will just go up again. I’m sure you can think of other ways to keep consumption (and demand) down.

Iraqi judge says shoe-tossing reporter was beaten
You throw two shoes at me and I’ll beat the crap out of you too. Yeah.. that’s the headline, the guy assault the President of the United States and the headline is he may have been beaten.
Folks have been discussing the punishment for this guy. My initial thinking was he should be tried, convicted, and given a suspended sentence. That way it’s on his record but he’s not in jail for two years for throwing shoes.
But now that some idiots are pointing to this as some sort of great thing I think there needs to be some example made, although two years does seem harsh for throwing shoes. But he was clearly trying to harm the president and that can not be minimized because of how ridiculous the whole situation appeared on camera.
I have usually focused on President Bush’s reaction while watching the video. The way he reacted made the situation appear less serious to me, but last night I focused on the attacker and tried to not look at the president at all. I found it interesting that I had a different reaction when I focused my attention exclusively on this guy violently hurling shoes knowing full well he was gonna get taken down.
Bottom line – he either needs to be punished or he’s a nut and needs to get locked up and placed under the care of some kind of mental health professional.

Bailout approved: Automakers to get $17.4B
You can tell folks think this is a good thing because the headline doesn’t read “Bush bails out automakers”.
The article talks about tough concessions that needed to be made by the auto industry to get this bail out. Hopefully those concessions are focused on actually getting these companies to be healthy competitors in the marketplace because $17.4B isn’t going to keep them floating forever.
Also, good to see we are slipping further and further into a socialist economy as we start buying partial stakes in private industry with tax payer dollars.

Ill. Gov. Blagojevich to make statement
Probably won’t be quite as interesting as the statements he made when he thought no one was listening.

Franken opens first lead in Minn. Senate race
I know this is probably temporary, but even if Franken loses, the fact that this race is so close makes me have to ask the people of Minnesota: What the hell were you thinking? Maybe we should elect Michael Moore president, appoint Ralph Nader Sec of Defense, tap one of the folks from NAMBLA to head the Department of Health and Human Services…
Franken as senator (shaking head in disbelief), next the Dems will be wanting to appoint someone with no real experience, who happens to have a famous last name, a senator from New York over thousands of much more qualified people.
Which leads to another thought… millions upon millions of people in this country… why do we keep tapping the same DNA pool over and over again for leaders? It’s clearly not because they are more qualified than other folks. Can we find someone other than a Bush, Clinton or Kennedy. Maybe we need to extend term limits to families. Two terms as and individual, three per family in any given 25 year period… something like that.
Just thinkin’ …
