Obama identifies new method of collecting tax revenues

Friday, January 30th, 2009

** Update 2/2:  Well.. either great minds think alike or folks over at FoxNews visit our humble site.  On Fox & Friends this morning, the idea that Obama has identified a great way to generate tax revenue by nominating evaders was stated almost exactly as it appears here… not the first this has happened… happens frequently enough for me to start wondering if this is more than a coincidence.  Probably just a coincidence… but if not, feel free to toss a hat tip my way. **

President Barack Obama has discovered an as yet untapped source of tax revenue that should considerably help offset the increase in expenditures associated with the “stimulus” plan he is proposing.

By seeking out tax evaders as candidates for cabinet positions in his administration, he has cleverly found a way to tap a neglected constituency:  liberal politicians who believe tax laws only apply to other people.

First we had Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, who more than likely would not have bothered to pay back taxes owed had it not been for his nomination.

Now we have Tom Daschle, from AP:

Former Sen. Tom Daschle, picked by President Barack Obama to lead his health reform efforts, recently filed amended tax returns to report $128,203 in back taxes and $11,964 in interest, according to a Senate document obtained by The Associated Press.

$137,167 in taxes and interest?  No penalties?  If you or I owed that much, do you think we would be in line for a cabinet post or any other government job?  I suppose we might be offered a temporary assignment as a member of the environmental protection team, cleaning litter on the side of major highways.

At this rate, if Obama appoints another 6.6 million people to government jobs who owe about $150,000 in taxes, he’ll have collected enough to cover a one trillion dollar stimulus plan.

Which leads to an interesting thought…  if the federal government dumps one trillion into the economy, it would take one hundred million of us tax payers paying $10,000 each in ADDITIONAL taxes to pay that off without interest…

So, if you are one of the top 100,000,000 tax payers in this country, figure on a pretty hefty tax bill down the road…  I feel stimulated already.

Quick thoughts: Treasury Secretary Geithner

Monday, January 26th, 2009

Congratulations Secretary Geithner on your confirmation!

I too use TurboTax <wink wink>, good to see someone in the job who understands the tax code well enough to avoid paying taxes.  I used to work with someone who said the best person to put in an enforcement or oversight role is the guy who knows all the ways around the law…  he’ll be able to sniff out the other folks who make, ummm.. honest mistakes.

Watch out Afghanistan, more diplomacy on the way…

Monday, January 26th, 2009

It is so refreshing to see Barack Obama’s new approach to Afghanistan, from the Boston Herald 1/26:

Karzai’s latest criticism follows a Saturday raid in Laghman province that the United States says killed 15 armed militants, including a woman with a rocket-propelled grenade launcher, but that Afghan officials say killed civilians.

Two women and three children were among the 16 dead civilians, Karzai said in a statement.

In Laghman’s capital, hundreds of angry demonstrators denounced the U.S. military yesterday and demanded an end to overnight raids.

Obama lied, children died… has a familiar ring to it…

Not to worry, help is on it’s way, from the LA Times 1/25:

Saying that the Obama administration has inherited a ‘real mess,’ the vice president predicts ‘an uptick’ in casualties as more troops are deployed in Afghanistan in a stepped-up campaign.

Ah yes, any “uptick” in casualties due to Obama policies are not his fault… no, no, no… silly… anything bad between now and 2012 is all on George Bush.   Only good things will be recorded next to the name of the one, the only Baaaraaaaacccckkkk OOOOOobaaaaaammmmaaaa!

Side note… I actually saw, about a week before the inauguration, at an official “president elect” event, Barack Obama being introduced like he was a boxer entering the ring….

Obama has pledged to deploy additional troops in Afghanistan in an Iraq-like “surge” designed to impose security in cities and towns that have essentially gone lawless. The increase — at least 20,000 this year — will significantly bolster the existing force of 32,000. But it will be far smaller than the roughly 140,000 serving in Iraq and only a fraction of what experts say would be needed to dominate the region.

Interesting.  Obama opposes a surge in Iraq, which proved to be the right approach, then he proposes a surge in Afghanistan that military experts agree is a risky approach at best for that region.

Employing this risky tactic in Afghanistan will, as Joe Biden has warned us, lead to an “uptick” in casualties, but that will all be on Bush, even though the decision to send these troops into the region is Obama’s alone.

Sorry… that don’t cut it.  You send Americans into harms way, you carry that burden on your shoulders.

From the day he took over as president, any result, good or bad, of any decision he makes… he owns.  The economy is bad… if it gets better, three cheers for Obama; if it gets worse, that’s on him.

We can not afford to allow our leaders to hide behind their predecessors… we hired him to do a job, not tell us how hard it is.

You can’t handle that?  Don’t run for president.

Finally the truth is known… I’m not fat!

Monday, January 26th, 2009

I just have a bad cold.  That stuffy nose just slipped down a bit and became a stuffy belly.

From FoxNews:

Obesity can be “caught” as easily as a common cold from other people’s coughs, sneezes and dirty hands, scientists said Monday.

The condition has been linked to a highly-infectious virus which causes sniffles and sore throats.

Nikhil Dhurandhar, an associate professor at The Pennington Biomedical Research Center, in Baton Rouge, La., said the virus, known as AD-36, infects the lungs then whisks around the body, forcing fat cells to multiply and also causing sore throats.

“When this virus goes to fat tissue it replicates, making more copies of itself and in the process increases the number of new fat cells, which may explain why the fat tissue expands and why people get fat when they are infected with this virus,” Dhurandhar said.

In one test, a third of obese people had the rare and highly contagious virus compared to just 11 percent of thinner people. Weight gain can last three months until the body has built up resistance to the bug.

So for up to three months, if you have this virus, you will grow new fat cells, which if I am not mistaken, never go away.

All this time I thought it was because of all that food I was eating which was taking up so much time I didn’t have any time left to exercise.

Quick thoughts…

Monday, January 26th, 2009

It is so much easier to complain than to defend… I suppose that’s one plus of full control of our government by the Dems…

Viva la resistance!

Just Thinkin’: Is Obama leading ALL Americans?

Saturday, January 24th, 2009

I’ve heard folks expressing confusion over how Obama on the one hand proclaims he will lead as the president of all Americans while on the other hand appearing to dismiss any input from Republicans as essentially irrelevant.

So…  I got to thinkin’… there is really nothing inconsistent with his words and behavior.

Think about it, for eight years far left liberals, such as BHO, have been crying about how they must take America back.  “Back from who?” I would think, didn’t we have elections where we voted for the guy we wanted?  Doesn’t that mean Americans chose their president?  So who are they taking the country back from?

Then, Obama gets elected, the nation is freed from years of oppression and depression, and Obama has come to lead all Americans.  They’ve taken the country back at last.

Here’s the key…  if you are not a liberal, you are not an American, heck, you might not even be a person.  You (we) are to be despised as the lowest creature, barely walking erect and unable to breath through the nose.   Obama and the liberals took the country back and now Barack Obama is ready to lead all “Americans”…

Like Obama said (can you imagine if Bush had said this)  from Fox News:

While discussing the stimulus package with top lawmakers in the White House’s Roosevelt Room, President Obama shot down a critic with a simple message.

“I won,” he said, according to aides who were briefed on the meeting. “I will trump you on that.”

Yes sir, you certainly did win… or perhaps more accurately, McCain lost because, quite frankly, if the Republicans had a half-way decent candidate and the economic mess hadn’t flared up, you would not be president.  But you are our president and 55 million of my closest friends and I would appreciate it if you would consider the folks who represent our views when making decisions.  You don’t have to, but if you don’t, at least stop making believe you are trying to include us.

I know it is politically correct to talk about how wonderful he is, but based upon his complaining about being badgered when a reporter asks a question, his behavior towards anyone who disagrees with him, and even his performance at ceremonies, he comes across to me as a somewhat testy, immature, spoiled brat.

Hey, it’s early… maybe he’ll prove me wrong.
