Three cheers for our newest senator, Al Franken:
This is great! No really… one party government is the way to go. President, House and Senate were already Democrat of course … (you knew that, right? Just checking because a lot of folks thought the Republicans were in charge during the last election), but now the Dems have 60, count em, 60 votes in the Senate!
No more faux filibusters (you know, the kind where no one actually filibusters like in the old days, reading from the phone book for hours.. they just announce “hey, I’m filibustering” and then go out for martinis).
So, this is either the second sign of the apocalypse, the final climb of the pendulum to the far left before a rapid swing back to the right, what this country needs, what this country deserves, or totally irrelevant because we’ve already screwed things up so bad there’s no real hope of recovery… I’m sure with time we can come up with something positive out of this…
Six months from now, for folks who voted for Obama and who helped secure huge majorities in the House and Senate for the Dems, I’ll be asking one question: “How’s that workin’ for ya”.
Way back in Feb 2007, Thinkin’Bout Stuff presented a case for the strong possibility Obama would be elected president. Based upon his current course and trajectory, would have to say, more than three years out, he’s looking like a likely one-term president. Frankly, I think that would be OK with him because he is looking to reshape America in his image of “fairness” without regard to his future political fortunes, fully aware that it will be virtually impossible to unravel in his lifetime.
