“So it is written, so it shall be done!” .. or not

Six months ago, newly minted President Barack Obama proclaimed Guantanamo “will be closed no later than one year from now.”

So it is written, so it shall be done.

Not looking so certain these days.

To be fair, he still has six months to go, but already he has had to back track on campaign declarations about the indefinite detention of some prisoners and has struggled to figure out what to do with the terrorists  after Guantanamo closes… although he did find a nice resort to house some of them.  On the plus side, not likely they will go back to their former lives… who would…

On April 20th, the president challenged his cabinet to cut $100 million, just $100 million, from their collective budget within 90 days.

So it is written, so it shall be done.

$100 million is a lot to you and me, but it should be incredibly easy to find $100 million in savings at that level.  Could probably save that much by cutting down on flights passed the Status of Liberty and weekly parties at the White House.

Seemed to me, at the time he was making these pronouncements, that he appeared quite naive and seemed to think presidents just have to say things and then magic happens…

So it is written, so it shall be done…

Now reality is setting in… it actually takes planning and hard work to accomplish things.  And not everything that made sense on the campaign trail makes sense in the real world.

So, it is written… so?
