Franken or Pelosi… who has more class?

Thursday, December 17th, 2009

Was about to write about Nancy Pelosi, then saw this clip of Al Franken acting like the mean-spirited, condescending, asshole that he is and couldn’t decide which to write about, so decided to not decide and write about both:

First … this guy is the most junior senator in the Senate.  Why on Earth is he chairing ANYTHING?

Second…  it has been many years since I served as the parliamentarian for an organization or brushed up on Robert’s Rules of Order, but I believe Franken was out of order; before he can speak or object as a member he must first step down from the chair

Third… what a disrespectful, mean-spirited, condescending, self-absorbed, egotistical, self-important little twit!  Senator Lieberman requested a couple of minutes to finish his statement, a request that is always agreed to without objection out of respect and courtesy among senators, and this low-life injects his brand of sarcastic disdain for anyone to the right of Fidel Castro into one of the most respected and formal institutions in our government.

As predicted, Al Franken is an embarrassment to our country and to the people of Minnesota who elected him.

Speaking of left-wing partisans… Nancy Pelosi.

In October of 2008 Nancy Pelosi said:

“Elect us, hold us accountable, and make a judgment and then go from there. But I do tell you that if the Democrats win, and have substantial majorities, Congress of the United States will be more bipartisan,” said Pelosi.

Seem more bipartisan to you?  Maybe she meant twice-as-partisan.

The latest example of her bipartisanship is with the congressional delegation in Copenhagen.  Apparently there was a press conference held today and someone forgot to invite the Republicans.  In fact, the Republicans were denied access to the press conference.

When asked about this obvious partisan play, in a foreign country where we expect our “leaders” to leave domestic politics behind, Pelosi said the Republicans were welcome to hold their own press conference.

Way to show a united front, one America, indivisible, under God…  guess there really are two Americas as that Democrat icon John Edwards told us years ago.

Federal judge sides with ACORN, clearly nuts

Friday, December 11th, 2009

Just saw this news report from AP on FoxNews:

A federal judge has ruled the U.S. government’s move to cut off funding to ACORN is unconstitutional.

U.S. District Judge Nina Gershon issued the preliminary injunction against the government Friday. She ruled that it is in the public’s interest for the organization to continue receiving federal funding.

ACORN claimed in its lawsuit that Congress’ decision to cut off its funding was unconstitutional because it punitively targeted an organization.

A lawyer for ACORN says the decision sends a sharp message to Congress that it can’t single out an individual or organization without due process.

What they are essentially claiming here is that Congress passed a Bill of Attainder directed at ACORN:

A bill of attainder (also known as an act or writ of attainder) is an act of the legislature declaring a person or group of persons guilty of some crime and punishing them without benefit of a trial.

I’m no lawyer, but since when is it considered punishment to refuse to fund an organization or person?  Does that mean every other organization that Congress chooses to not spend our tax dollars on can claim they are being singled out and punished?

This is a ridiculous ruling, this judge is wrong, and this will get reversed if our government bothers to appeal it… be interesting to see if they do appeal since they probably like the idea of being “forced” to fund ACORN.  That way they can fund this bunch of crooks and say they had no choice, the judge made them do it.

This ruling does send a sharp message though… government spending is so out of control, organizations can now claim an inalienable right to our money.

Gorewellians Exposed?

Saturday, November 21st, 2009

If this is legit, you betcha…

From various sources, not sure who first posted or where this info was first posted, but here’s the Telegraph’s take:

The conspiracy behind the Anthropogenic Global Warming myth (aka AGW; aka ManBearPig) has been suddenly, brutally and quite deliciously exposed after a hacker broke into the computers at the University of East Anglia’s Climate Research Unit (aka Hadley CRU) and released 61 megabites of confidential files onto the internet. (Hat tip: Watts Up With That)

<snip>

But perhaps the most damaging revelations – the scientific equivalent of the Telegraph’s MPs’ expenses scandal – are those concerning the way Warmist scientists may variously have manipulated or suppressed evidence in order to support their cause.

The article includes several sample emails as does Watts Up With That and The Herald Sun.

For years Gorewellians have tried to scare us into believing that radical behavioral change is required to save the Earth from the terrible effects of human-caused global warming.

Those of us who were skeptical were lumped in with the nuts who believe man never landed on the moon.

Forget that Gore and many of his followers do not practice what they preach, flying all over the globe in private jets and leaving a carbon footprint far exceeding that of just about every American.

Pay no attention to the millions of dollars earned by folks like Gore who are cashing in on this fear.

Never mind how much supporters stand to gain through the sale of new technologies to combat global warming.

Don’t dare question how “buying” an acre of rain forest to ease your guilt about driving a Hummer does anything beyond putting money into the pockets of profiteers.

All of that is nothing more than deflections, distractions and deceptions  spun by those among us who refuse to believe the absolute fact that global warming is a foregone conclusion and that man’s culpability is settled science.

Even Bill O’Reilly says we’re idiots for questioning the “facts”:

I am a big fan of the Factor and was disappointed O’Reilly went with the pack on this one without questioning how much truly was settled science and how much was spin from folks who stand to profit from the battle against global warming.

Assuming this leak is a legit look into a cover up of facts that run counter to the position that global warming exists and is man made, it is reasonable to question why the need for a cover up if this is settled science.  And if this is not settled science, questioning is appropriate (actually, even if it is settled science, questioning is appropriate… it used to be settled science that the Earth was flat).

And… if questioning is appropriate, I suppose those of us questioning the “facts” are not idiots after all.

Now about that moon landing…  just kidding.

UPDATED: SEIU vs Volunteers – Which Obama Pet Wins?

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

UPDATE: 11/20 See update over at Michelle Malkin: SEIU leader who threatened Boy Scout quits

… and also from the Morning Call:

Three days of taking body blows nationally from conservative pundits, a rebuke from the Lehigh Valley’s congressman and even a lashing from his own union led Balzano to voluntarily resign his position Thursday as head of the local Service Employees International Union.

Balzano said he and seven other executive officers of the local SEIU stepped down.

Unfortunate outcome to something that could have been easily avoided by simply acknowledging that not everyone needs to bow to the wishes of SEIU.

———————————————————–

Article in the Morning Call of Allentown, PA -

In pursuit of an Eagle Scout badge, Kevin Anderson, 17, has toiled for more than 200 hours hours over several weeks to clear a walking path in an east Allentown park.

Nick Balzano, president of the local Service Employees International Union, told Allentown City Council Tuesday that the union is considering filing a grievance against the city for allowing Anderson to clear a 1,000-foot walking and biking path at Kimmets Lock Park.

“We’ll be looking into the Cub Scout or Boy Scout who did the trails,” Balzano told the council.

SEIU will be looking into the Boy Scout who did the trails?  Seriously?

Isn’t this the same SEIU who’s president has visited the White House more than any other person on this Earth?

Wasn’t this Boy Scout volunteering his time as President Obama has encouraged all Americans to do?

Do we need to check in with the unions, specifically SEIU, prior to performing volunteer work to avoid a visit from a few thugs with baseball bats?

More from the Morning Call -

Balzano said Saturday he isn’t targeting Boy Scouts. But given the city’s decision in July to lay off 39 SEIU members, Balzano said “there’s to be no volunteers.” No one except union members may pick up a hoe or shovel, plant a flower or clear a walking path.

SEIU has spoken!

But, but.. how do we know what we can and can’t volunteer to do?  Doesn’t the president want all Americans to volunteer?

Calling service an integral part of how we meet the challenges of our time, President Barack Obama renewed his appeal for all Americans to make service a part of their daily lives in an address to 2,000 service leaders gathered at the Points of Light Institute’s “Presidential Forum on Service” at Texas A& M University on October 16th.

Perhaps President Obama should send out a clarification.  Perhaps we should make service a part of our daily lives as long as that service has been authorized by the local chapter of SEIU or is sanctioned by ACORN as an appropriate use of our time and energy.

Thankfully it appears this young scout may be given a reprieve because of the attention this has received:

“We are probably going to let this one go,” Balzano said .

Probably…  maybe he should lock the doors just in case.

Folks losing their jobs is sad and an unfortunate consequence of an economy that is being driven into the ground by our “leaders” in Congress.

But this scout did not take anyone’s job.  No one was going to be hired to complete this project.  The only thing that would have been “accomplished” by stopping this scout is the path would still be inaccessible to folks who can now enjoy some fresh air and exercise along its route.

So happy SEIU has such influence over our president and, apparently, our lives.

Hollywood out in left field over Polanski

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

Caution:  Some of this post contains explicit testimony about rape of a minor.

Polanski supporters, defenders and apologists continue to insist that there is no justice to be served by extraditing this convicted criminal to the USA to serve a jail sentence he avoided by leaving the country.

Won’t bother to link to all of his defenders here… easy enough to find them all over the internet.  But this clip from “The View” caught my attention because I would not have expected to see Whoopi Goldberg trying to minimize the seriousness of statutory rape of a 13 year-old by a 43 year-old man, saying that it may not have been a “rape” rape.

Well, first of all, what the heck is the difference?  Since when do we use “consent” by a minor as an excuse for an older adult to have “sex” with her?

Statutory rape is not defined to protect the rapist, it is there to protect a victim who is not mature enough to consent…  but it is still rape.  The “consent” is negated by the fact that the rape is “statutory”.

However, Ms. Goldberg should do her research BEFORE flapping her gums.

Polanski drugged her then took her orally, vaginally and anally…  are we really expected to believe she consented to this?

A quick read of the transcript of the grand jury testimony shows that, assuming you believe the victim’s account, no consent was given (from The Smoking Gun):

One more caution…. this testimony is graphic….

Sound consensual to you?

ABC has a 2003 interview with the victim;  she does not recant any of her testimony.

Some say Polanski has already had to suffer because of his self-imposed exile… self-imposed being the key element.  We don’t get to decide our own punishment.  Must have been rough living in France in a chalet.

Some say the victim has forgiven and wants to move on.  Understandable, but not a good reason to let a convicted fugitive slide.

Some say you need to look at how wonderful the man is and measure his life in total.  I’m good with that, right after he serves time for his crime.

Some say there are more important things for California to be spending taxpayer funds for these days.  Really?  Great message to send to potential rapists out there…

Time for all the Hollywood radical left-wing elitists out there who think we are picking on Polanski to get a clue:  even in Hollywood, raping a 13 year-old is a crime.

Extend school year to provide more time for Obama worship

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

There is no truth to rumor the President Obama is looking to extend time in school to allow for praise & worship…

But with all the time teachers seem to be spending on Obama worship these days, maybe more time is needed for things like math and English.

Another “kids for Obama” video is making news today:

Did not include this video in the Movie Night: In Praise of Obama post last week because it didn’t appear as bad as some of the others and needed to draw the line somewhere, but this helps to illustrate what appears to be a problem with some teachers not being able to differentiate between teaching and worshipping.

Understood that some teachers are very happy that their guy got elected president, but allowing their irrational exuberance (to steal a phrase) to spill over into their job as teacher, whether or not indoctrination is intended, is completely unacceptable.  And administrators who support, defend, encourage, excuse this type of behavior are just as much to blame.

It seems there are folks on the left who truly believe Barack Obama has freed our country from an oppressive ruler, allowing their blind hatred for everything Bush to translate into the type of dancing-in-the-streets behavior often seen with people of liberated countries (or fans of a sports team that just won a championship).

But that is all this is really…  a somewhat irrational, emotional response to a victory for their side that needs to be celebrated with friends on their own time, not in the classroom with our kids.

When was the last time you saw this kind of praise for someone BEFORE he actually accomplished anything bey0nd winning an election?

For that matter… when was the last time you saw this kind of praise for any president in his lifetime inside the borders of the USA?

Never.

There is a reason for that…. think about it.

By the way… who says extending the school year is the answer to better education and where’s the evidence this will allow our kids to compete any better for jobs in a global economy in the future.  Who is to say that more time in school will result in better education?  Will kids be able to concentrate on hot summer days with no air conditioning?

Maybe we don’t need more time in school;  maybe we need to make better use of the time students are already in school instead of making up songs to praise Obama.

We are not losing high tech jobs overseas because overseas workers are smarter or better; we are losing those jobs because overseas workers are willing to work for less money and because companies pay less taxes in those countries.

Think about that the next time Washington tells you we need to raise taxes on  corporations…  no law says they can’t just pick up shop and move overseas where taxes are lower.
